About 3-Day Tanzania Safaris From Zanzibar
If you’re planning a 3-day safari from Zanzibar, two of the best options are Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) and Mikumi National Park, both located in southern Tanzania. These parks offer some of the most authentic and diverse wildlife experiences in East Africa.
Direct flights from Zanzibar are often available to airstrips near Nyerere’s main eastern gate, making access convenient. Another budget-friendly alternative is to fly to Dar es Salaam and drive to Saadani National Park, a coastal reserve where bush and beach meet.
For a more premium experience, you can also book a fly-in safari to northern Tanzania’s world-famous parks, including the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, and Tarangire National Park. While these require a longer journey, the wildlife and landscapes are truly exceptional.
A 3-day safari is the minimum recommended duration to fully enjoy the experience from Zanzibar. The typical itinerary includes flying to the park on the first day, spending two nights in the reserve, and returning on the third day. This schedule allows for at least three to four game drives, or a mix of game drives and a boat safari if you’re visiting Nyerere National Park.
Game drives are usually timed for early mornings and late afternoons—when wildlife is most active. With this setup, you’ll have excellent opportunities to see a wide range of animals in their natural habitats.
It’s possible but not recommended due to the long travel time. A 3-day safari offers a much better wildlife experience.
Yes, most reputable safari operators include round-trip flights from Zanzibar to Arusha or directly to Serengeti in their packages.
”For a budget-friendly 3-day safari, consider a camping trip to Saadani National Park, with prices typically ranging from $200 to $250 per person per day. This usually includes transfers, park fees, basic accommodation, meals, some drinks, a guide, and game drives. Note that on some camping safaris, guests may be expected to assist with light camp chores.
For a more comfortable or luxury experience, especially in parks like Nyerere or Mikumi, prices generally start at $400 per person per day, with high-end lodges and fly-in safaris costing significantly more. Trips to the northern parks—such as the Serengeti or Ngorongoro—are often even pricier due to longer flight distances and premium-level accommodations.”

Open-roof 4×4 Land Cruisers are the standard for game drives.
”Depends on the package. Private safaris are more expensive but customizable. Group safaris are more affordable but follow a fixed itinerary.”
