2-Day Safari from Zanzibar – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Most 2-day safaris from Zanzibar visit parks in mainland Tanzania, such as:
- Selous/Nyerere National Park (most accessible by air)
- Mikumi National Park
- Tarangire or Ngorongoro Crater (less common due to distance, but possible by air)
- Serengeti National Park
A 2-day Tanzania safari from Zanzibar usually includes travel on the first day and a return flight on the second, giving you just one precious night in the park. To make the most of your limited time, it’s best to fly both ways—ideally to an airstrip located within or very close to your chosen park. This ensures maximum time for game viewing and a more seamless safari experience.
Alternatively, if you choose to venture north, Serengeti National Park is always my top recommendation—though getting there does require a slightly longer flight. That said, other exceptional options such as Lake Manyara National Park, Tarangire National Park, and the iconic Ngorongoro Crater also offer unforgettable safari experiences, each with its own unique landscapes and wildlife highlights.

- A chance to see the Big Five and other wildlife
- A break from beach life
- A taste of Tanzania’s diverse landscapes
You will usually stay in a safari lodge or tented camp inside or near the park. Options range from basic to luxury, depending on the package

The best safari from Zanzibar depends on your budget and the kind of experience you’re looking for.
For shorter trips, 2-day, 3-day, or 4-day safaris to Tarangire, Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater are among the most popular choices. These destinations offer an excellent balance of accessibility, wildlife diversity, and scenic beauty—making them ideal for travelers with limited time.
If you’re seeking a more iconic Big Five safari experience and have a higher budget, a 5-day fly-in safari from Zanzibar to Tarangire, Serengeti (2 nights), and Ngorongoro Crater is considered the ultimate option. While more expensive, it offers unmatched wildlife encounters and the full breadth of northern Tanzania’s most renowned parks.
